Cloudy and drizzly fading to a bit of blue here and there
Kennacraig to Islay
We watched the MV Finlaggan approaching the wharf. This time the bow split in two and folded back:
Once that process was completed the ramp came down
Once we were all loaded - and there were a lot of vehicles to load - we were off:
She was abig ferry The Finlaggan and quite posh!
After about an hour and a half we were at Port Askaig
... and all ready to unload:
As we drove along the 30 minute drive to Port Ellen we were quite surprised to see how pastoral and tidy all the farms looked. We had expected it to be rather wild like Mull. Islay is flatter and better suited to farming. The sun came out and by the time we got to 10 Charlotte Street it was a beautiful sunny day and warm - see!
Our flat is lovely - here is the front entrance. Paula met us there and welcomed us in. She was very friendly and helpful - and we could park the car outside - no pay and display!!!
Inside the whole place was lovely - kitchen:
... and dining room
Up stairs is a really nice bedroom and bathroom.
Once we had our stuff unpacked we went for a walk down to the Co-op to buy some groceries:
The signs made us realise that we were in a foreign land.
Supermarket instructions:
Charlotte Street:
We also saw a Tall Ship:
...a Cabbage Tree
... Bonnie Anne:
... and a Rabbit

Islay is a beautiful island with awesome beaches. Spent a holiday there with my grandparents and parents too. Had a great time. Seeing Tarbert and Islay, Oban, Mull and Iona are bringing back some wonderful memories of holidays spent in my childhood. Agnes
ReplyDeleteIt's quite possible you will see basking seals on the beaches on Islay. We saw quite a lot of them when we were there. Agnes
ReplyDeleteI love Islay -the beaches are beautiful, and I even enjoyed the drive to Port Ellen -only 10 minutes of it was single lane this time.
