Sunday 5th August - Oban - The Seal Colony & Schiehallion

Sunday 5th August

Cloudy drizzly morning, then just cloudy and mild - no wind - and no waves - very important!

The Seal Colony
and
Schiehallion

On the way to McCaig's Tower we had seen this tour offering a one hour trip to a Seal Colony for £10 each, so when we got back, and the weather had improved from drizzle to just cloudy, we decided to go. Here is the boat arriving to pick us up:

Off we went. Look who was in the boat with us. He didn't say much, but I was wondering if we were going to get back in one piece

The first thing we passed was a Salmon farm. The fish were continually jumping. That that is how they got their Latin name "Salire" to leap, according to Google.

After about twenty minutes we got to the colony - a colony of three Common Seals and one Grey Seal.

Schiehallion

When we got back to 5 High Street I had a Schiehallion

  1. I was expecting there to be hundreds of seals in the colony, not just three and an interloper -perhaps all the others had got tired of performing for the tourists and gone off fishing for their dinner?
