In the morning we went for a short drive to the Laphroaig Distillery and amde a booking for tomorrow.
Then we were off on a 15 minute drive to the town of Bowmore to get some information about Islay
It was built in 1768 with funds provided by Daniel Campbell to erect three parishes and supply the ministers with stipends, common money and glebes - a piece of land serving as part of a clergyman's benefice and providing income. Previously in 1725 he bought the whole island of Islay for £12,000 and so became the Laird of Islay!
The kirk was made round so that the Devil couldn't find a place to hide - so they say. The Scots must have been terrible sinners if they were so scared of the Devil!

We were able to walk up to the Gallery and look down on everything:
In the evening we had dinner at "The Sea Salt" restaurant run by a Frenchman. It was OK but not anything to write home about:
