Friday 13th July - Winchester - The Great Hall & The Round Table

Friday 13th July

A beautiful warm day

Winchester - The Great Hall and the Round Table

In the morning we drove down to Winchester to look at The Great Hall and King Arthur's Round Table

This Great Hall is one of the finest surviving medieval halls of the 13th Century - between 1222 and 1235 at a cost of over £500. It is all that remains above ground of the vast Winchester Castle whose construction began under William the Conqueror.

King Arthur's Round Table, hanging on the wall at the far end, is almost 800 years old. It weighs 1200kg:-

Behind the castle is Queen Eleanor's garden named after Queen Eleanor of Provence and Queen Eleanor of Castile in Spain, the wives of Henry 111 and his son Edward 1:-

Looking back the other way to a beautiful old shingle roof:-
