Monday 23rd July - Edinburgh - Catching the No. 13 Bus to town & Shopping day

Monday 23rd July

Cloudy with odd sunny spells - warm

Shopping Day

Today we all set off on the No. 13 Edinburgh Coach Lines bus to Princes Street from the Hillpark Green bus stop. Costs us 5.40 for a day pass for two people.

We got off at Princes Street and went down to the Information Centre to buy a good map of the Ettrick district where we are going on Thursday. We had a coffee at Costa's upstairs

We then walked up through Advocates Close to the Royal Mile shops

On the way to the shops we found this levitating wizard

And beside him was Sir Walter Scott's statue

with this intriguing plaque about him;

We spent quite a lot of time in a variety of shops, but eventually acquired most of the gifts for the people back home that we were thinking of.

We had a nice lunch at Deacon Brodies' Cafe -

Deacon Brodie was the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's story of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde:

Down the passage way ...

To the cafe:

And had nice sandwiches for lunch

We then finished off our shopping and headed down to the double decker open-topped Bus Tour of Edinburgh starting point by Waverly Station:

The man who did the commentary was great and we learned a lot.
